We have had numerous people nearly run down by cars turning on to Dickson Street from Arkansas Avenue (two today!) and also turning onto Arkansas from Dickson Street. This problem could be quickly and cheaply remedied if the light was re-set to create an "all round red for cars" and one walk signal for all the pedestrians to cross at one time. Thank you.
I think Fayetteville would benefit if you had an aquatic center similar to springdale aquatic center. There is a lot of land on Gregg st coming into Johnson on the corner of Van asch and Gregg. That would be a great place for it.
The city apparently has no city committee charged with planning and policy related to transit. The "Active Transportation Committee" works on sidewalks and trails. With the growing use of bus transit and the existence of TWO bus systems that have overlapping routes it is time for the City of Fayetteville to take a leadership role in planning and coordinating the transit systems.
We need to have a camp and ball program in Fayetteville for children with special needs. There are not any outdoor camps or ball programs in the community, so our children are going to other cities such as Rogers or Springdale to other camps or ball programs. award monetary grants for neighborhood or community group projects. The projects could be required to have matching funds or in-kind donations and could be judged on which projects will have the greatest ROI for the community.
Increase funding for bus routes focused on employment locations.
Continue multi-modal transportation annual funding with an emphasis on pedestrian (connected sidewalks and trails).
In recognition of the tough economic time and the new law going into effect about pet micro-chipping, I think it would be great if there were another micro-chipping clinic. I know that the HSO is offering assistance with this, but we certainly don't want to exhaust their resources, either. Maybe there are some other organizations that can help with this?
Turning the Old Post Office into an indoor, year round farmers market would encourage local producers to buid more greenhouses and provide a space/venue for their surpluses that are currently trucked back out of town. Add a permanent home for artists in the Old Post Office as well! - Thanks Dave & Michele for the idea!
Some of our smartest, most charming people are being lost to San Francisco. Maybe if we made Fayetteville more like San Francisco, people wouldn't want to leave.
I would like to see Fayetteville establish a "Beltway" of trees as a forward looking approach to sustainability rather than channeling money to widening current or developing new roadways. Jobs? Instead of the CCC, we could have the FFF (Fayetteville Forward Foresters) to prepare, plant and maintain the project. I propose the name The Wangari Woods in honor of Wangari Mathaai, tree planter extraordinaire.
